Merrily We Roll Along Rooftop Writers Intitative Winning Entry
Why dare to speak when you can write? I write because when I open my
mouth the words seep out, staining everything within reach, no
industrial strength cleanser daring enough to brave the task. Written
words you can erase, hell, even a pen’s ink can make its stain no longer
a mistake. But perhaps that’s where contrivances in art are born. What
is withheld when the swirling mind’s “word vomit” is cleansed instead of
examined? Sanitized, starched, and sterilized. I write because I must
fight to win the battle between my unadulterated mind and my critical
red pen.
